BHP Billiton Deploys MinLog’s Underground Proximity Awareness Technology at Olympic Dam

MinLog was contracted to supply underground proximity awareness tools for BHP Billiton's Olympic Dam mine operation.

BHP Billiton requested MinLog to supply a personnel and vehicle proximity awareness solution for its fleet of heavy vehicles, to enhance safety with the minimum user interaction, while also providing for future production management and management information systems requirements.

Located in South Australia, north-west of Adelaide, Olympic Dam is the site of the fourth-largest copper deposit and the largest uranium deposit in the world. The current mine capacity is 235,000t a year of refined copper and 4,500t a year of high-grade uranium oxide. In the underground workings the copper uranium ore is extracted and then hauled by means of an automated train and trucking network that feeds the operation's underground crushing, storage and ore hoisting facilities.
