On August 12, 2006, Murray & Roberts Cementation achieved a major milestone within the mining industry when this leading mining contractor recorded two million fatality free shifts.
Henry Laas, managing director of Murray & Roberts Cementation says this is the first instance where a mining contractor has achieved a second consecutive million fatality free shifts in the mining industry in South Africa, and is certainly a first for Murray & Roberts Cementation.
"Safety has always been a major focus for the company, and this significant achievement underscores our commitment to identifying at risk behaviour timeously and ensuring a safe, productive working environment," Laas says.
"The company’s new business management system developed over the past eighteen months has been structured in such a manner as to contribute to increasing levels of risk awareness and to provide the necessary support to operational personnel in the safe implementation of our projects."
Following a recent audit by D.Q.S., Murray & Roberts Cementation has recommended for certification to ISO 9001:2000; ISO 14001 and OHSA 18001.
