There are strict standards in China and Russia for imported mining equipment. Only those products that are certified and approved after meeting regulations can be used. The regulatory specifications and standards also place high demands regarding hydrodynamic couplings on the technical know how of the manufacturer.
In the last months at Voith Turbo, nearly the entire coupling series of constant-filled and fill-controlled Voith Turbo fluid couplings for belt conveyors and armoured face conveyors (AFC) have been certified. These are being used for underground coal mining in both countries and must fulfill high safety standards. Therefore, product approval not only involved characteristic curve testing, but also material analysis and evaluation of safety-relevant details. The overload protection function using fusible plugs was especially important on the check list of the Chinese approval officials. Finite element material strength calculations was also required to be disclosed to the foreign delegation in Crailsheim, Germany.
Successful certification now opens the door for Voith Turbo to sell constant-filled and fill-controlled fluid couplings directly to both mining markets in China and Russia.
Voith Turbo, the specialist for hydrodynamic drive, coupling, and brake systems for use on the road, on rail, in industry, and in marine propulsion, is a division of Voith.
