Earlier this month, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) awarded MMD Australia accreditation for Environmental Management. At the same time, the company achieved the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series standard. Building upon their Quality Management recognition in 2016, this gives MMD Australia a triple crown in standards certification.
OHSAS 18001: 2007 (Health & Safety Management) establishes a proactive approach to identifying, controlling and monitoring risks that can arise in a company’s day-to-day activities.
MMD Australia’s managing director Lee Hillyer said of the framework: "It demonstrates to our customers that we’re confident in implementing, maintaining and improving health and safety policy, but it can also provide us with a competitive edge for contracts and tenders."
ISO 14001: 2015 (Environmental Management) is for companies that want to manage their environmental responsibilities through procedures that contribute towards sustainability. This standard is only awarded to organisations that have incorporated all the ISO’s requirements into their management system and fulfilled those requirements without exception.
Last year, MMD Australia achieved the ISO 9001: 2008 (Quality Management) rating. This standard ensures systems are put in place to maintain quality for the customer, whilst continually striving to improve operations.
Hillyer concluded: "The combination of these three systems as part of our Integrated Management Systems will help us streamline our processes and work more safely and efficiently, whilst working towards our goal of sustainable greener mining."
Congratulations to the MMD Australia team who put in a tremendous amount of work to achieve these accolades and continue to maintain such high standards. And well done to MMD India who recently attained ISO 9001 accreditation, another MMD company demonstrating its commitment to quality by setting the bar high and accomplishing its goals.
