While we have mine subject matter experts on staff, training program development is also sponsored and reviewed by subject matter experts from our mining customers.
Haul truck operator training
VISTA recently introduced TruckLogic™, a more intelligent approach to haul truck operator training. TruckLogic is a comprehensive haul truck operator training curriculum that combines web-based training (e-learning), simulation and on-the-job training tools. It is the first of its kind in the mining industry.
These elements are integrated into a blended learning format, which helps trainees to retain more of what they’ve been presented than conventional training methods. In addition to task-based operator training, VISTA offers machine-specific training modules on any model of large mining truck.
PC-based mining simulators
VISTA offers a complete line of PC-based simulators, which enable your mine to provide affordable hands-on training to new operators. Available simulators include:
- Mining trucks (two haul truck sizes)
- Wheel loader
- Hydraulic excavator
These simulators are designed to be set up on your PC, using off-the-shelf controls. Replica and OEM controls are also available. At an installed cost of about $20,000 per workstation, your mine can afford to deploy multiple simulators, enabling you to train a greater number of operators at one time.
Mine safety training and mine equipment e-learning
VISTA recently launched a new family of affordable, web-based training modules called the Silver Series that covers many types of mining equipment, including:
- Haul trucks
- Wheel loaders
- Motor graders
- Excavators
An innovative new tire care program helps mine personnel work together to extend the life of costly haul truck tires. In addition, a pair of introduction to heavy equipment modules help trainees with no previous heavy equipment experience how these machines work and interact, and common safety hazards to be aware of when working around them.
Mine site training services
VISTA provides third-party skill evaluations of your shovel, haul truck and other equipment operators. Operator skill assessments are performed by observing over 30 different operating points. Any deficiencies are noted and then targeted for improvement. This analysis provides you with valuable information that you can use to improve fleet utilization, productivity and profitability.
VISTA has provided on-site heavy equipment training to some of the world’s leading mine industry companies, including Bucyrus International, Freeport-McMoRan, Cliffs Natural Resources (Northshore Mining), Suncor Energy, Syncrude, Boliden and Minera Antamina.
