A wage-related strike has been called off by South Africa’s National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) at DRDGOLD’s recognition facility at Blyvooruitzicht Gold Mining, South Africa.
The South African gold producer and NUM signed a wage pact on 9 October and DRDGOLD’s 3,900 workers resumed work on 11 October after being on strike since 15 September.
NUM secured an 8% across-the-board basic wage hike for DRDGOLD staff
At DRDGOLD’s East Rand Proprietary Mines operation, where underground mining was suspended, the union agreed to a 4% across-the-board basic wage hike and the gold profit sharing initiative.
At the Crown Gold Recoveries operation, NUM agreed to an 8% across-the-board hike and the gold profit sharing initiative with 500 Crown strikers resuming work immediately.
DRDGOLD’s estimated gold output per day loss due to the strike was about 320oz, mostly from Blyvoors deep-level underground mining operation.
