US-based CiDRA Minerals Processing is to install SONARtrac systems at CITIC Pacific Mining’s Sino iron project in Australia.

The Sino Iron project is being developed at Cape Preston in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

CiDRA will install the systems on all magnetite slurry lines within the project as their non-intrusive, volumetric flow technology is immune to the magnetic properties of magnetite.

SONARtrac, a new class of industrial flowmeter systems, do not make contact with the slurry and can be removed and reinstalled without process interruption when a pipe needs to be replaced.

The passive, sonar-based technology enables measurements of single phase and multiphase fluids and slurries with the same level of accuracy and performance.

The Sino project has access to over two billion tons of magnetite ore and will be one of the world’s largest mines, when it begins operation.
