Edenville Energy has restarted operations at the Rukwa Coal Project in southwest Tanzania after it was closed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The company also reported that there was minimal damage to the mine area during the closure period. Edenville plans to remove minor silt and sand build up from the pit area, alongside repairs to the haul road to the new northern pit. The company also checked the plant and equipment and no material issues were found. The first shipment of coal from the restart is expected to take place early next week, subject to customer truck availability.

North Korea is starting the illegal export of coal after closing almost all shipments during the first few months of the year in an effort to block the spread of Covid-19, a confidential United Nations report has revealed. Coal shipments have restarted after activity came to a near-halt between January and March. Bloomberg quoted a panel monitoring the enforcement of sanctions on North Korea as saying in a report to the Security Council that imports of goods and commodities by road and freight have also restarted.
Gold Resource Corporation has reported that second quarter production from its Oaxaca Mining Unit (OMU) was negatively impacted by a nearly eight week Mexican government mandated shutdown in Mexico due to the Covid-19 pandemic. At the beginning of the quarter, OMU was placed on care and maintenance. OMU’s production totaled 2,441 ounces of gold, 185,330 ounces of silver, 246 tonnes of copper, 1,140t of lead and 3,004t of zinc. Due to the pandemic, the company withdrew its 2020 annual production outlook during the quarter.
