Midland to begin drilling campaign at Canada’s Lewis project

The drilling campaign will be launched at the company’s Lewis gold project and target new gold occurrences.

Midland Exploration is set to commence a drilling campaign at its wholly owned Lewis gold project in Abitibi, Canada.

The project, located around 60km south-west of Chapais, will include an exploration programme consisting of four drill holes, totalling an expected 725m.

The initiative is scheduled to start in February and aims to investigate new gold occurrences identified through prospecting since 2020.

Midland Exploration will focus on the Red Giant and Golden Nest showings, which were discovered by its prospecting efforts.

These occurrences are associated with induced polarisation (IP) anomalies, with Red Giant bordering a magnetic high.

The gold-bearing zone at this site has shown increasing grades and thicknesses towards the west and remains open for exploration in this direction.

On the other hand, Golden Nest showing, characterised by 2–10% pyrite mineralisation, is directly associated with an IP anomaly that coincides with a sharp increase in resistivity.

This anomaly can be traced over several hundred metres, although trenches excavated in 2022 to the west did not locate the same mineralisation.

The IP anomalies are situated near a north-north-east-trending structure, which may have displaced the horizon hosting the Golden Nest showing.

Both the Red Giant and Golden Nest showings are hosted in sheared mafic volcanic rocks, spaced 1km apart and feature numerous quartz-carbonate veins with pyrite and arsenopyrite mineralisation.

These zones, which have never been drill-tested before, are also associated with strong chlorite and ankerite alteration and are easily accessible via logging roads.

In August last year, Midland Exploration started its first exploration for lithium at its Mythril area and Galinée projects in Quebec, Canada.
