Becker Mining Systems, a system supplier for mining infrastructure, has partnered with alwaysAI, a provider of real-time insights through Vision AI, to develop Vision AI applications to cut mechanical failures and improve operations at mines.
This collaboration aims to improve productivity, safety, and operational efficiency through advanced computer vision (CV) applications.
alwaysAI CEO Marty Beard said: “Our computer vision solutions are designed to provide real-time insights and alerts that reduce risks and improve operational efficiency, especially in high-risk environments like mining.”
The partnership will focus on creating CV applications to address hurdles such as monitoring restricted areas, ensuring personal protective equipment compliance, and enhancing equipment utilisation.
These applications are designed to automate essential processes and provide real-time insights, thereby reducing manual oversight and driving cost savings.
One of the key applications includes real-time conveyor belt monitoring, extending Becker Mining Systems' Belt Rip Detection System capabilities.
This will allow for the early detection of wear and damage while also ensuring exclusion zones are free from unauthorised access.
Another application aims to optimise cage usage and minimise delays by tracking the movement of personnel and equipment, flagging unauthorised or inefficient use.
Additionally, safety will be increased through automated tracking and collision avoidance, monitoring PPE compliance, and tracking the movement of personnel and vehicles, supported by Becker Mining Systems' solutions.
Zone-based monitoring and alerts will safeguard critical areas within the mine, with alerts triggered for unauthorised entry or prolonged activity, thus enhancing safety protocols by tracking personnel movements.
In addition, alwaysAI and Becker Mining Systems plan to develop and deploy these computer vision applications, with Becker Mining Systems also handling the installation of necessary on-site infrastructure.
Becker Mining Systems co-CEO Dr Wolfgang Wegener said: “By integrating this cutting-edge technology into mines, we can help minimise risks and reduce machine downtime while boosting overall performance.”
