Canadian junior exploration company Basin Uranium has acquired the Great Divide Basin Uranium Project in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, US.

The company staked 104 unpatented mineral lode claims covering around 1,880 acres in the south-central region of Wyoming within the Great Divide Basin (GDB).

These newly acquired claims are contiguous with Premier American Uranium's Cyclone Project, which has an exploration target ranging from 6.5 to 10.5 million short tonnes at 0.06% triuranium octoxide at the same concentration.

Historical drilling in the area dates back to the 1970s, with many drill pads still identifiable, particularly on the western half of the project.

Recent exploration activities by Tournigan Energy have identified wells with grade-thickness (GT) values exceeding 0.25Gt, located roughly 500–1,000ft south-west of the Basin Uranium project.

The exploration activities identified the presence of potentially economic grades of uranium mineralisation in the vicinity.

Wyoming is recognised as the leading uranium reserve holder and producer in the US.

The GDB is considered the least exploited of Wyoming's basins, yet is projected to hold more than 270 million pounds of uranium.

Basin Uranium CEO Mike Blady said: “The staking of the GDB property represents our continued expansion into the USA and second internally generated project in Wyoming. We continue to execute on acquiring and developing strategic assets located in prolific mining districts with extensive historical exploration.

“The GDB Project and surrounding area have played host to a plethora of explorers, starting with the US Government in the 1950s and, most recently, Tournigan Energy in the mid 2000s.

“The well understood geology, historic exploration and proximity to UR Energy's Lost Creek ISR mine and processing facility add to the appeal and potential of GDB. Wyoming represents one of the premiere exploration and mining jurisdictions for uranium within the US, which provides for a clearly defined and expedient pathway for permitting and development.”
