Basin Energy secures Trollberget project licence in Sweden

The Trollberget project expands Basin Energy's exploration land by 116km².

Exploration and mining services company Basin Energy has doubled its uranium holdings in Sweden with a new government-approved licence for the Trollberget project in the north of the country.

The Swedish Mining Inspectorate has granted Basin Energy exclusive exploration rights for the Trollberget area for a three-year period.

The project is strategically positioned between the Björk and Rävaberget projects within the Arvidsjaur-Arjeplog uranium district.

The addition of the Trollberget project increases Basin Energy's exploration land by 116km², bringing its total landholdings in the uranium and green energy metals district to 219km².

Basin Energy conducted initial field assessment work at the nearby Virka and the adjacent Björk and Rävaberget projects during November and December 2024. Despite limited historical exploration, these areas have shown signs of base metals, gold, silver and uranium.

The 2024 programme included logistical access reviews, initial outcrop mapping and reconnaissance sampling.

The company submitted 19 samples from Björk, three from Rävaberget and 23 from Virka for broad multi-element geochemical analysis, aiming to characterise the mineral system.

The results from this analysis are expected in the first quarter of 2025.

Basin Energy managing director Pete Moorhouse said: “Basin is excited to have had its application for the Trollberget project approved and commends the relevant authorities for the rapid processing time.

“The field identification of structural controls at Björkberget, which disappear under a thin glacial cover, provide a compelling narrative for the prospectivity of the Trollberget project. Historic exploration work was heavily restricted to outcrop and the potential for further hidden mineralisation beneath this thin cover is interpreted to be very high.”

In November 2024, Basin Energy entered into a binding agreement to acquire a portfolio of Scandinavian exploration projects. This deal equips the company with multiple near-surface targets for uranium and green energy metals.
