ABB has announced the expansion of its ABB Care programme to include new services intended to enhance productivity for the mining industry.

The initiative aims to streamline maintenance and bolster the operational health of critical mining assets, combining ABB's expertise in mining and technology to support customers in evolving their maintenance strategies.

The ABB Care framework delivers proactive and preventative services, leveraging advanced digital technologies to optimise performance, maximise availability, and minimise unplanned maintenance and downtime.

This approach also contributes to maintenance cost savings for mining operations, the company said.

Mining automation and hoisting are the latest additions to the ABB Care suite. ABB Care for Mining Automation provides a customisable set of services, allowing clients to choose components that align with their specific requirements.

These services encompass alarm management, cybersecurity, life cycle management and loop performance, among others.

For hoisting systems, ABB Care for Hoisting introduces tiered service plans to tackle various challenges, from powertrain issues to brake system maintenance.

Each plan includes remote support, guaranteed response times, annual inspections and a maintenance time bank, ensuring comprehensive coverage for clients.

ABB Process Industries hoisting global business line manager Björn Jonsson said: “Mine hoist systems are at the very of heart of many mining operations around the world.

“They offer the most efficient way to transport heavy loads of ore from the depths, and must therefore operate at the highest possible levels of reliability and productivity.

“ABB Care for hoisting provides customers with a solution to swiftly adopt a predictive maintenance approach, enabling them to reach to [the] world-class maintenance standard established by ABB, and keep these crucial components operating with minimal availability loss.”

Last month, ABB introduced Trendex, a cloud-based application to boost the efficiency of troubleshooting and diagnostics in mineral processing.
