The World Gold Council (WGC), the market development organisation for the gold industry, has added Canadian gold producer Torex Gold to its Board of Members.
Torex Gold is engaged in the exploration, development as well as operation of its fully-owned Morelos Gold Property in Mexico.
WGC chair Randy Smallwood said: “I am delighted to welcome Torex Gold to the World Gold Council. They play an important role in the production and exploration of gold in Mexico and have exciting and ambitious growth plans. I look forward to working with them.”
El Limón Guajes mining complex and early stage development project Media Luna deposit are the principal assets of Torex Gold.
According to WGC, Torex Gold is currently Mexico’s second-largest gold producer.
Torex Gold president and CEO Jody Kuzenko said: “The World Gold Council has taken the lead in reinventing our industry by demanding that member companies adhere to the highest standards of ethics and corporate responsibility.

In June, African gold producer, developer and explorer Hummingbird Resources joined the WGC.
In September last year, the World Gold Council launched a set of principles for gold miners designed to address key environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.
Some of the WGC members include Newmont Goldcorp, Barrick Gold, AngloGold Ashanti, China National Gold Corporation, Detour Gold and Endeavour Mining.
