Tawana Resources has obtained approval from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia for a scoping study and terms of reference report for an environmental and social-impact assessment (ESIA) at its Mofe Creek project.

According to the company, the approval represents a key step in the ESIA process.

It also forms part of the company’s proposal to obtain an environmental permit and mining licence for the project.

"Obtaining this latest approval from the EPA marks another important step forward in the overall permitting process."

Tawana performed technical and geological field work in conjunction with community and stakeholder consultation within the project area.

Tawana Resources executive chairman and CEO Wayne Richards said: "We recognise that securing the permits necessary for the establishment of operations at Mofe Creek is critical to our commitment to rapidly advance the project towards development.

"Obtaining this latest approval from the EPA, again in such a short timeframe, marks another important step forward in the overall permitting process."

The Mofe Creek is located within one of Liberia’s premier iron ore mining districts, and is 10km along strike from the previously mined Bomi Hills mine and various other mining sites.
