SES and Airbus Defence and Space have signed a deal to deliver managed satcom services to corporate customers operating in the mining sector in Africa and worldwide.
Airbus Defence and Space will integrate SES’ satellite technology and its satcom developments as a platform for new Terralink services, which are planned to be launched later in the year.

The services are expected to further bolster the Airbus and Space connectivity portfolio of satcom-enabled communication solutions to meet the growing connectivity needs of customers in the mining sector.
Under the terms of the agreement, Airbus and Space will secure full coverage and flexibility on the very small aperture terminal (VSAT) services across the African continent by using additional capacity on the SES-5 satellite, and the SES teleport in Luxembourg combined with its own teleport in Aussaguel, France.
Further, the agreement encompasses the possibility to expand Ku-band capacity on the ASTRA 2G, ASTRA 4A and NSS-12 satellites of SES.
Under the deal, the companies will also offer satellite communication services to customers in the energy and humanitarian sectors.
