Australian developer Pilbara Minerals Limited has reached a deal on the Native Title Agreement for its fully owned Pilgangoora Lithium-Tantalum in Western Australia.
Pilgangoora Lithium-Tantalum project is located near the Port Hedland in the province of Western Australia.
The agreement was approved by representatives of the Njamal People who are the traditional owners of Pilgangoora property. This agreement also strengthens the cooperative working relationship between the two parties.
The deal represents a major approval required to allow the granting of the Pilgangoora mining lease.
Award of the lease is the last major hurdle to the Pilgangoora mining proposal submission and subsequent final project permit during the first quarter of next year, allowing further construction, development and mining activities to proceed.
Njamal applicant Doris Eaton said: “This agreement forms the basis of a long-term relationship that will offer lasting opportunities to our people.”

Pilbara Minerals managing director and CEO Ken Brinsden said: “I would like to acknowledge the Njamal people for the professional manner in which they have approached our discussions and for their positive attitude towards the development of this important and strategic Australian resource.
“The agreement encompasses opportunities for local businesses and employment initiatives that will deliver benefits for local communities for what we hope are many decades to come.
“At the same time, the development of Pilgangoora will bring a range of economic benefits, jobs and opportunities to the Pilbara and the state of Western Australia, and we are very much looking forward to moving ahead with its development as quickly as possible.”
In line with its fast-track development strategy, Pilbara continues to progress key access arrangements and has in recent weeks completed several other access agreements and development milestones at Pilgangoora.
It includes signing of two key road access agreements with Pilbara rail operators to develop a haulage route to the project and execution of an access agreement with the local pastoralist at the location. This will provide access to private roads, infrastructure corridors and mining locations within the site.
Pilbara has also secured the project’s water supply by combining on-site bores with access to the existing bore field location towards the south of the site.
