A collapsed open-pit coal mine in Semirara Island in Antique in central Philippines has killed at least three people, with six others currently missing.
According to the Philippines Department of Energy, following the collapse of the mine owned by Semirara Mining, search-and-rescue operations are going on to find the missing people.
Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao said that the accident took place at a time when the workers were working on a water system.
It was reportedly raining heavily for days on the mine site.
Semirara Mining & Power CEO Isidro Consunji told GMA News that nine workers were at the site and buried alive by the landslide.
Consunji said: "That’s as far as I know. Some of our mining equipment has also been damaged. We don’t have the complete details yet."
