Caterpillar is planning to build a new mining truck facility in Indonesia and invest $640m in the expansion of its facilities in the US.

The new mining truck facility will be located in Batam, Indonesia, and will produce mining truck chassis and bodies.

The firm will invest $150m in the Batam facility, with operations to commence in 2012 and the first trucks to be produced in the third quarter of 2013.

Caterpillar will invest about $300m to increase the capacity of large mining trucks produced in Decatur, Illinois, by 2016.

The facility in East Peoria, Illinois, will also receive $340m for expanding the production of large track-type tractors used in mining applications, which is expected to be completed by 2015.
