Millennial Lithium has submitted the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report to Argentina’s Environmental and Mining Authority for construction and operations at the Pastos Grandes Project.
Covering 8,664ha, the project is located in Salta Province, Argentina.

EIA was conducted by Ausenco-Vector, which focuses on the preparation of EIAs for the mining industry in compliance with Argentine Federal and Provincial regulations.
EIA is based on brine extraction through pumping wells, solar pond evaporation and production of up to 25,000t annually of lithium carbonate from a centralised processing facility.
The project feasibility study is expected to be complete in July.
Millennial was granted initial environmental approvals for exploration activities at its initial licences in 2016. Its expansion licences for the project were received in 2018.

By GlobalDataIn October 2018, Millennial presented environmental baseline studies (EBS) to the Environmental and Mining Authority of Salta.
The EBS was prepared by Ausenco. It included documentation of flora, fauna, air quality, archeological sites, hydrogeology and a socio-demographic survey of the project.
Millennial president and CEO Farhad Abasov said: “We are very pleased to have completed the submission of the EIA to the Environmental and Mining Authority in Salta. Millennial remains committed to sound and compliant mining practices, high environmental standards and the highest level of active community consultation, involvement and participation in the project.
“This submission continues our permitting process. With continued proactive engagement with the provincial mining agencies we anticipate approval by the end of 2019.”
The Ausenco EIA report indicated that after considering environmental and socioeconomic factors, the impact of the project is overall positive.
The mine life is expected to be 25 years.
