Former US President Donald Trump has declared victory in the 2024 Election, in speech to his supporters in Florida, claiming the electorate had given America “an unprecedented and powerful mandate.”

The Republican candidate has already won three of the crucial battleground states – North Carolina, Georgia and crucially Pennsylvania, with its 19 electoral college votes.

This places him at 266 votes, four votes short of a winning score.

But with two other key states – Arizona and Michigan – leaning heavily in Trump’s favour, his victory seems certain. Trump has also seemingly won the popular vote.

Several UK news outlets reported that oil prices had fallen by 2% on Wednesday morning, as the dollar strengthened on news of Trump’s expected victory.
