Bauba Platinum has awarded a contract for a chrome spiral circuit wash plant and the primary crushing circuit at its Moeijelijk mine in Limpopo province, South Africa.
The R18.4m ($1.57m) contract was awarded to an undisclosed company and covers the plant’s design, construction, and commission.
Scheduled to be commissioned by July, the plant will enable the company to upgrade Moeijelijk’s current chrome ore run of mine (RoM) saleable product into a lumpy and then foundry, chemical and metallurgical grade concentrates.
Bauba Platinum CEO Nick van der Hoven said: “Along with the development of our underground mine, the commissioning of this wash plant will further enhance Moeijelijk’s profitability and value.”
As per the plan, the crushing circuit is expected to have a capacity of 41,000t of chrome ore RoM per month, while the spiral wash plant will have a monthly feed capacity of 35,000t.
During the crushing process, lumpy chrome ore is set to be screened.

By GlobalDataThrough the product diversification measure, the company intends to enhance its profit margins, as well as diversify its revenue stream into less volatile, premium speciality grade chrome ore products.
In addition, the plant enables Bauba to increase production when its underground mine is at a stable production of 30,000t per month.
The company noted that it remains on course to achieve stable planned underground production by the first half of next financial year.
