South Africa’s Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) has agreed to suspend a planned wage strike at Sibanye Gold.
The news comes after the association announced plans to launch an indefinite strike at the company to demand higher wages.
Sibanye Gold CEO Neal Froneman said: "As previously stated, management at Sibanye is committed to ensuring that the interests of all stakeholders are considered and protected, and that the viability and sustainability of our business is maintained.
"We will continue to engage constructively with AMCU leadership in an attempt to ensure a favourable outcome for all stakeholders."
The mining company is set to acquire Anglo American Platinum’s Rustenburg mine and signed an agreement in 2015 with three other representative unions, Reuters reported.
Later on, the company extended the wage agreement to the members of AMCU, which angered them.
