Platinum Group Metals has produced the first concentrate from its Maseve platinum mine (formerly known as the WBJV project 1) near Rustenburg in South Africa.

Prior to this, the company completed a test during hot commissioning of its concentrator facility. The first concentrate will be delivered to the Anglo Platinum Waterval smelter 40km south of the mine.

During testing, the company also completed surface infrastructure including warehouses, workshops, change houses, tailings facility and connections for power and water.

Based on the test results, normal systems analysis, adjustments, and tuning work are planned to be completed over the next few days.

Later on, the mill and concentrate recovery plant is expected to become fully operational.

Feasibility study for WBJV was completed in July 2008 and formal construction began in 2010.

The company secured mining rights for the project in April 2012. The mine life is estimated to be more than 20 years.

The WBJV consists of projects 1, 2 and 3 and is located alongside Anglo Platinum’s Bafokeng Rasimone Platinum mine in South Africa.
