Macmahon Mining Services has received a contract from Glencore International for a hoisting shaft extension and upgrade at the CSA copper mine in Cobar, Australia.
CSA mine is located in New South Wales and comprises a high grade underground copper mine and a concentrate plant.
The project will provide access to deeper resources in the mine and increase the annual production to 270,000 tons of copper concentrate.
Under the contract, the CSA No.1 shaft will be extended from 1,050m to 1,550m and equipped for hoisting ore, by installing a new head frame and underground materials handling system.
The total cost of the project including the contract and other works is expected to be $150m.
Glencore International co-director of the zinc/copper/lead department Daniel Maté said the shaft extension will enable the firm to increase production at Cobar and also to extend the mine life.
