Lonrho Mining has recovered a 53.25 carat diamond from its Lulo project located about 150km west of the Catoca diamond mine in Angola.
This diamond is the biggest recovered by the company to date and is more than twice the size of the 22.25 carat stone found in November 2010.
The 53.25 carat stone will enhance the diamond recovery grades achieved by the firm from the BLK_06 bulk sample.
As at 22 November 2011, Lonrho has recovered 102 diamonds from BLK_06, weighing 173.85 carats, from 339m3 of alluvial gravels
Lonrho Mining managing director Miles Kennedy said, “Over the next 12-18 months we will search to find the source, or sources, shedding incredible diamonds of this size.”
