US-based GFS has selected Power Train Technologies (PTT) to distribute its LNG mine truck conversion systems in Chile.
Large mine haul trucks will be able to operate using a combination of liquid natural gas and diesel fuel using the company’s EVO-MT Systems.
Mines that have the availability of liquid natural gas can achieve savings in fuel cost with the help of these system.
GFS executive vice-president George Aguilera said: "We are pleased to partner with Power Train Technologies to bring our EVO-MT technology to the Chilean mining sector.
"As a major mining power and with two large LNG import terminals in the country, Chile is well-positioned to benefit from the increasing global trade in LNG by displacing more expensive diesel fuel."
At present, GFS offers conversions systems for Caterpillar 777 and 793 and the Komatsu 830 and 930 truck models.
Said to have been in daily operation at western US mines, the converted Caterpillar and Komatsu trucks accumulate more hours of run-time and help operators achieve improved sustainability.
PTT general manager Alex Gildemeister said: "We are very excited to add the EVO-MT Systems to our portfolio of solutions and to be a part of the GFS family.
"Both our companies are in the business of offering our customers solutions that tackle operational costs and carbon footprint and that’s exactly what this partnership is about."
PTT offers services to the mining sector including customised engine tuning for local altitude requirements, engine / drive-train repairs and spare parts supply in Latin America.
