The tool is useful for design, optimisation and communication for dragline or dozer push operations and also helps engineers to reduce operating costs and increase value.

According to the company, Deswik.DD serves as an addition to the company’s suite of integrated software tools designed for mining engineering, operations planning and mining data management.

Deswik.DD senior consultant, dragline engineer Ian Neilsen said: "Sectional analysis is an engineering discipline that has seen little improvement in 15 years, and yet is a key link in the planning of many mines around the world.

"Now that the boom times are over, we are seeing a resurgent emphasis on a fundamental approach to improving mine operations."

"Now that the boom times are over, we are seeing a resurgent emphasis on a fundamental approach to improving mine operations, and have built this tool with optimisation as a clear focus."

In order to find the best operating plan, time savings of up to 80% in overall planning time can be reinvested in scenario analysis using the new tool.

The tool helps realise time savings by the way integration with upstream design and reserving tools, downstream scheduling tools, and Earth Technology’s material movement simulation package 3d-DigPlus.

In developing the tool, the company could kick various goals already by delivering automation of section operations along strike, as well as down dip.
