The US’s mining industry registered a 0.8% drop in IT hiring activity in January 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 1.39% in January 2022 when compared with December 2022.

Out of the mining industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.11% share in January 2022, recording a decrease of 0.16% over the last three-month average share.

 

Top five job classifications in the US’s mining industry’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 101.74% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s mining industry in January 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 40% in January 2022, registering a 9.8% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 26.96% share, an increase of 24% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 13.91%, registering a 77.78% rise from December 2022.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 11.3%, up 18.18% over the previous month.

 

Top five mining companies in the US’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 26.53% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s mining industry during January 2022 over December 2022.

Freeport-McMoRan posted 14 IT jobs in January 2022 and registered a drop of 36.36% over the previous month, followed by Nucor with 14 jobs and a 55.56% growth. RTI International Metals with 14 IT jobs and Aditya Birla Management Corp with 13 jobs, recorded a 75% growth and a 333.33% growth, respectively, while AngloGold Ashanti recorded a flat growth with 7 job postings during January 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in January 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 56.52%, up by 18.18% from December 2022. Mid Level positions with a 30.43% share, registered an increase of 16.67% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 13.04% share, down 31.82% over December 2022.
