December 2021 has seen a decrease of 5.35% in the overall hiring activity when compared with November 2021.
IT jobs accounted for a 3.26% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in December 2021, registering a decrease of 0.23% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in December 2021
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 46.61% in December 2021, a 37.5% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 22.03% in December 2021, marking a flat month-on-month increase. In the third place was Computer and Information Analysts with a share of 10.17% in December 2021, a 25% drop from November 2021.

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 1.75% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s mining industry during December 2021 over previous month.
Freeport-McMoRan posted 22 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered an increase of 175% over the previous month, followed by ThyssenKrupp with 9 jobs and an 800% growth. Nucor with 9 IT jobs and RTI International Metals with 8 jobs, recorded a 73.53% drop and a 20% drop, respectively, while AngloGold Ashanti recorded a 100% increase with 8 job postings during December 2021.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s mining industry
The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s mining industry IT hiring activity with an 86.44% share in December 2021, a 35.44% decrease over November 2021. Canada featured next with a 12.71% share, down 44.44% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 0.85% share, a flat growth compared with November 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 51.69%, down by 37.76% from November 2021. Mid Level positions with a 27.12% share, registered a decline of 42.86% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 21.19% share, down 21.88% over November 2021.
