The global mining industry noticed a 5.3% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2022 over the previous month, led by En++ Group’s 6.1% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The mining industry’s overall hiring activity declined 4.12% when compared with July 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 4.12% share of the global mining industry’s hiring activity in August 2022, up 0.27% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2022 were 3.05% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 8.12% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 31.4% emerged as the top IT occupation in the mining hiring activity in August 2022, a 37.2% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 29.27% in August 2022, down 10.28% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 19.82% share in August 2022, a growth of 16.07% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with an 11.89% share in August 2022 and a drop of 2.5% over July 2022.
Top five mining companies by recruitment activity in August 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 21.88% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global mining industry during August 2022 over July 2022.
En+ Group posted 20 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by Freeport-McMoRan with 16 jobs and a 5.88% decline. Rio Tinto with 15 IT jobs and Nucor with 14 jobs, recorded a 28.57% decline and a 7.69% rise, respectively, while Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile recorded a flat growth with 13 job postings during August 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in mining industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global mining IT hiring activity in August 2022 with a 47.56% share, which marked a 9.86% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 21.34%, registering a 58.33% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 21.04% share and a 27.78% rise over July 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 7.62% and a month-on-month drop of 3.85%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 2.44%, registering a 60% increase over the previous month.
