Australia’s mining industry registered a 9.3% drop in IT hiring activity in November 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 10.92% in November 2021 when compared with October 2021.

Out of the mining industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 2.91% share in November 2021, recording a decrease of 0.61% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Australia’s mining industry’s IT recruitment activity in November 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.68% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s mining industry in November 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 35.53% in November 2021, registering a 22.73% growth over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 23.68% share, a decrease of 28% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 23.68%, registering a 20% rise from October 2021.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 9.21%, down 30% over the previous month.

Top five mining companies in Australia’s IT recruitment activity in November 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 80% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s mining industry during November 2021 over October 2021.

BHP posted 12 IT jobs in November 2021 and registered a rise of 50% over the previous month, followed by Evolution Mining with 12 jobs and a 71.43% growth. Fortescue Metals Group with 11 IT jobs and Rio Tinto with 5 jobs, recorded a 37.5% growth and a 150% growth, respectively, while Westgold Resources recorded a flat growth with 5 job postings during November 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in November 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 67.11%, down by 15% from October 2021. Mid Level positions with a 19.74% share, registered an increase of 7.14% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 13.16% share, flat growth over October 2021.
