The top five companies accounted for 41% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Kobe Steel filed the most future of work patents within the mining industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 18 future of work-related patents in the quarter, compared with 15 in the previous quarter. It was followed by JFE with 13 future of work patent filings, China Baowu Steel Group (12 filings), and Hyundai Steel (5 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 39% share of total patent filings
The largest share of future of work related patent filings in the mining industry in Q3 2024 was in China with 39%, followed by the US (13%) and Japan (5%). The share represented by China was 22% lower than the 61% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
