A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11952644B2) discloses a method and system for operating a remelting plant. The method involves axially moving an electrode rod carriage and a furnace carriage along a guide column to position the electrode rod relative to the furnace for contacting an electrode. The guide column is articulatedly connected to a rotary column, allowing for tilting and rotation to center the electrode in the crucible. Additionally, a weighing device is used to weigh at least the electrode during the process. The system includes a furnace, an electrode rod, and the guide column with a weighing device attached to the rotary column. The guide column is tiltable and rotatable, with a ball joint connecting it to the rotary column.

Furthermore, the remelting plant comprises a support column parallel to the rotary column, providing stability and support for the system. The guide column's connection to the rotary column via a ball joint, along with the weighing device formed as a load cell, enhances the precision and efficiency of the remelting process. The lead-through, connecting the electrode rod to the furnace, can be linked via a bellows and is movable with the furnace carriage. The system also includes a gimbal in the furnace for detachable connection with the furnace carriage, ensuring flexibility in operation. Each carriage drive device, equipped with a drive spindle, allows for smooth axial movement of the electrode rod and furnace carriage along the guide column, facilitating the remelting process.
