The Queensland Government has issued an exploration permit for minerals (EPM) to EQ Resources, enabling the company to commence extensive on-ground exploration over a 480km² area in Far North Queensland.
The initiative aims to tap into the critical mineral potential of the historic Wolfram Camp and Bamford Hill mines.
With this permit, EQ Resources will now undertake drilling, geological mapping, and soil and rock sampling to explore the tungsten resources at these sites.
EQ Resources CEO Kevin MacNeill said: “At EQ Resources, we understand the importance of responsible and sustainable mining practices.
“As we did with the Mt Carbine Mine, we are committed to engaging closely with all local communities around Wolfram Camp to create shared prosperity and opportunities.
“This includes generating new employment avenues, contributing to the local economy and promoting responsible environmental stewardship in alignment with EQR’s core values. Having successfully navigated the permitting process, we are excited to get boots on the ground.”

By GlobalDataThe exploration permit is a significant move towards the re-commercialisation of Wolfram Camp, aligning with Queensland’s plan for sustainable mining practices, economic development and job creation.
Wolfram Camp, named after the mineral wolframite, has been a source of tungsten since the 19the century.
With the highest melting point and tensile strength among all pure metals, tungsten in used across in various segments including renewable energy technologies, electronics, construction, defence and healthcare.
Demand for tungsten is anticipated to increase as the global push for a net-zero future intensifies.
The re-commercialisation of former mining sites such as Wolfram Camp is a strategic element of the Queensland Critical Minerals Strategy and the Queensland Resources Industry Development Plan.
Queensland Resources and Critical Minerals Minister Scott Stewart said: “The approval of this exploration permit is a crucial step in our mission to transform Queensland’s former mines into productive, job-creating assets.
“EQ Resources has a proven track record in revitalising former mines. Revitalising Wolfram Camp will not only provide significant economic benefits but also ensures a steady supply of tungsten, critical for renewable energy technologies.
“This will not only create more good jobs for the region but helps us meet the challenge of leading the world towards a decarbonised future.”
