The workers union at Anglo American and Xstrata’s Collahuasi copper mine in Chile has said that workers will continue wage negotiations, following the rejection of an offer on 27 October.
Union secretary Juan Antonio Barraza said that if the Minera Dona Ines de Collahuasi – as the mine’s operating company is known – was willing to talk, so were the workers.

“It’s going to be tough,” Barraza said. “We haven’t even started yet,”
Company spokeswoman Bernardita Fernandez told Bloomberg that the company would resume talks and has requested mediated negotiations at Chile’s Work Inspectorate, which will delay the strike by five working days.
Extending talks by bringing in the government mediator would delay the start of a legal strike until 4 November, Barraza said.
