Rio Tinto has awarded a contract to NRW for contract mining and ore haulage to help boost production at Nammuldi iron ore mine.
Located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, 60km north-west of Tom Price, the mine is fully owned and operated by Rio Tinto Iron Ore.
According to NRW, the contract is worth $140m, and will use a significant amount of the company’s existing equipment for the work.
Two Hitachi 250t excavators and up to 14 Caterpillar 785 dump trucks will be used for the work.
Under the contract, NRW will construct mine haul roads, ore stockpiles, waste dumps and other mine infrastructure.
The scope of work will also include production mining including drill and blast, high-grade ore haulage from mine area to the existing Nammuldi plant site.

By GlobalDataNRW will also supply, install and operate two 5Mtpa crushing plants.
The contract term is for 24 months, comprising 135 personnel working on the site, including from local indigenous groups.
Mobilisation and starting of preliminary site works is expected to begin in August.
NRW CEO Jules Pemberton said: "It is pleasing to be awarded a significant contract during challenging times for the industry and continue a long association with Rio Tinto in the Pilbara.
"This contract award follows completion of the Nammuldi BWT works for Rio Tinto earlier this month."
