The British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office (BCEAO) has initiated the environmental assessment (EA) of IDM Mining’s Red Mountain Underground Gold Project in the Golden Triangle area of north-western BC, Canada.
Carried out under Section 10(1)(c) of the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Act, the assessment formalises the start of the environmental assessment (EA) for the project.
In the last few months, IDM submitted a project description to the BCEAO ans the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency.
Initially, First Nations reviewed the project description. Over the past two years, the company has completed environmental baseline studies, including surface and groundwater quality, hydrology, climate, geochemical studies, archeological assessments in a bid to support the EA process.
In conjunction with the process, IDM said it is also carrying out project engineering studies, including tailings and water management design to complete a NI 43-101 compliant pre-feasibility study by mid-2016.
IDM Mining executive chairman Michael McPhie said: "It has always been our strategy and intent to advance the permitting of Red Mountain over this period.

By GlobalData"In recognising the reality that permitting is a critical phase in project development, we have approached this process as an opportunity to distinguish Red Mountain by carefully, methodically and collaboratively working our way through the process in an efficient and timely manner."
At present, the company is earning an option to acquire a 100% interest in the 17,125ha Red Mountain property, 18km north-east of Stewart, BC.
The property was discovered in 1989 and was explored until 1996 by Lac Minerals and Royal Oak Mines with 466 diamond drill holes and more than 2,000m of underground development has been completed.
