The global mining industry noticed a 9.4% rise in IT hiring activity in July 2022 over the previous month, led by ThyssenKrupp’s 29.62% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The mining industry’s overall hiring activity increased 1.05% when compared with June 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 4.18% share of the global mining industry’s hiring activity in July 2022, up 0.58% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2022 were 2.79% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 6.18% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 41.52% emerged as the top IT occupation in the mining hiring activity in July 2022, a 57.69% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 27.09% in July 2022, up 7% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 14.18% share in July 2022, a growth of 19.15% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 10.13% share in July 2022 and a rise of 2.56% over June 2022.
Top five mining companies by recruitment activity in July 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 450% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global mining industry during July 2022 over June 2022.
ThyssenKrupp posted 117 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a rise of 11600% over the previous month, followed by Rio Tinto with 21 jobs and a 2000% growth. Elval with 18 IT jobs and Freeport-McMoRan with 17 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a 30.77% rise, respectively, while Teck Coal recorded a 26.32% drop with 14 job postings during July 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in mining industry
Europe emerged as the leading region in the global mining IT hiring activity in July 2022 with a 42.53% share, which marked a 250% rise over the previous month.
North America stood next with 35.95%, registering a 15.98% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 13.67% share and a 26.03% drop over June 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 6.58% and a month-on-month flat growth. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.27%, registering a 66.67% decrease over the previous month.
