Canada’s mining industry registered a 4.4% rise in IT hiring activity in April 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.
The industry’s overall hiring increased by 0.92% in April 2022 when compared with March 2022.
Out of the mining industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 5.94% share in April 2022, recording an increase of 0.19% over the last three-month average share.

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 106.98% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s mining industry in April 2022.

Top five mining companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in April 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 7.32% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s mining industry during April 2022 over March 2022.
Teck Coal posted 17 IT jobs in April 2022 and registered a drop of 5.56% over the previous month, followed by Teck Resources with 12 jobs and a 36.84% drop. ArcelorMittal with 5 IT jobs and Agnico Eagle Mines with 3 jobs, recorded a 66.67% growth and a 200% growth, respectively, while BHP recorded a flat growth with 1 job postings during April 2022.
Junior Level job postings dominate in April 2022
Junior Level jobs held a share of 53.49%, down by 39.47% from March 2022. Mid Level positions with a 25.58% share, registered a decline of 8.33% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 20.93% share, flat growth over March 2022.
