The global mining industry noticed a 3.9% rise in IT hiring activity in October 2021 over the previous month, led by ThyssenKrupp’s 10.62% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The mining industry’s overall hiring activity declined 6.68% when compared with September 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 4.38% share of the global mining industry’s hiring activity in October 2021, up 0.35% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2021 were 0.55% higher when compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 1.19% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 46.02% emerged as the top IT occupation in the mining hiring activity in October 2021, a 0.65% growth over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 17.7% in October 2021, down 28.57% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 16.81% share in October 2021, a decline of 25% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 11.5% share in October 2021 and a rise of 21.88% over September 2021.
Top five mining companies by recruitment activity in October 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 15.92% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global mining industry during October 2021 over September 2021.
ThyssenKrupp posted 36 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a drop of 26.53% over the previous month, followed by Nucor with 31 jobs and a 19.23% growth. RTI International Metals with 25 IT jobs and Anglo American with 21 jobs, recorded a 150% growth and a 23.53% rise, respectively, while Polyus recorded a 65.45% drop with 19 job postings during October 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in mining industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global mining IT hiring activity in October 2021 with a 39.53% share, which marked a 3.08% rise over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 31.56%, registering a 13.01% month-on-month decline. Europe was the third leading region with a 23.89% share and a 37.69% drop over September 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 3.24% and a month-on-month rise of 57.14%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.77%, registering a 68.42% decrease over the previous month.
