The mining industry’s overall hiring activity declined 3.62% when compared with August 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.85% share of the global mining industry’s hiring activity in September 2021, down 0.05% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2021 were 12.52% higher when compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 24.27% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 36.98% emerged as the top IT occupation in the mining hiring activity in September 2021, a 4.7% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 20.57% in September 2021, up 33.9% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 19.27% share in September 2021, a growth of 13.85% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 13.02% share in September 2021 and a rise of 19.05% over August 2021.
Top five mining companies by recruitment activity in September 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 33.61% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global mining industry during September 2021 over August 2021.
Polyus posted 52 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 26.83% over the previous month, followed by ThyssenKrupp with 41 jobs and a 70.83% growth. Nucor with 26 IT jobs and Gold Fields with 24 jobs, recorded a 100% growth and a flat growth, respectively, while En++ Group recorded a flat growth with 20 job postings during September 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in mining industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global mining IT hiring activity in September 2021 with a 33.59% share, which marked a 4.03% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 30.21%, registering a 12.62% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 29.95% share and a 4.96% drop over August 2021.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 4.43% and a month-on-month rise of 325%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.82%, registering a flat growth over the previous month.
